Welcome to LEAP!

"Don't let anyone rob you of your imagination, your creativity, or your curiosity. It's your place in the world; it's your life. Go on and do all you can with it, and make it the life you want to live." - Mae Jemison, the first African-American woman astronaut in space.

Hi! I am Sana Kohli, a senior at the Oakridge School. This quote is one of my favorites especially because she is such an inspirational women! For me, it reminds me that you should never let society, particularly gender standards in society, determine what you want to spend your life doing. Living by this quote, I have discovered many hobbies that I love such as reading, playing golf, and playing the guitar. In addition, I have held many leadership positions in the past including freshman class treasurer, sophomore class president, and co-founder and president of the robotics team. As a girl in STEM and someone who thoroughly enjoys programming, I am so glad that I found my passion, and I know that there are so many other girls who will love STEM as well if they are just aware of it. Furthermore, in 2021, I started working for Lean In as part of the Lean In Girls entity, as the only teenager, providing my input into creating a leadership program for middle school girls.

A little story about me: in the 6th grade, I was introduced to programming through a coding camp on Java, and, ever since then, I have loved being a girl in STEM. However, throughout the classes that I have taken, I have often noticed that there are not many other girls in STEM. This especially came to my attention when I started my robotics team, and there was only one other girl on the team. My goal for this blog is to shed light on the amazing, strong, brilliant, and ingenious women in history who have been forgotten or are not talked about nearly enough. I hope that by writing about these women we can gradually get more women in STEM and help them LEAP to their full potential!
